I Want You To Write… a Theme (Well, a Blog Post)

With Thanksgiving in the rearview and December looming before the week is out, it is time to start thinking of my favorite time of the year.  Three things start to flood my mind before the turkey is even off the table.  My birthday, Christmas and the movie A Christmas Story. I saw a tweet from @ACSMovie the other day and it started my mind wandering to Ralphie Parker and his mission to get his perfect gift, an “Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two hundred shot range model air rifle”.  To say that I have a slight affinity for this movie is an understatement.  It is my all time favorite movie and a favorite of many in my family. In fact, watching the marathon on TBS every year is how we spend our holiday family time. We watch the film over and over, quoting our favorite parts, wearing our “Schwartz hats” my mother made us all…and every year we managed to surprise some unsuspecting  family member in the bathroom with the classic recreation of “Randy’s gotta go” moment. A superfan to the extreme, if someone bought me this (link to pink bunny suit) I would indeed wear it. (This in fact is most likely why no one who plans on ever being seen with me in public will make that purchase; it’s a matter of self preservation).   Just ask my dog, Ralphie; I dig the film.

As I sat at my desk that day, quoting line after line in my head, I decided that I had to find a way to turn my favorite lines into a blog post.  At first, it was going to be “the Top 10 things I learned from A Christmas Story”, but then I thought – why not make this a challenge.  It was time to think B.A.C.O.N.  My love for these words deserved more – each quote is a lesson worthy of its own post. So, starting tomorrow, I will be presenting you with the “12 Blogs of a Christmas Story”.   One post (chronologically by how they appear in the film) will be presented every Mon/Wed/Fri for the next two weeks and one a day for the week before Christmas.

I hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as I did writing them – as well as the marathon of watching I did as “research”.

I LOVE this idea! I’m an outrageous fan of the film, too. I’d like to see you and my boyfriend (who, yes, wears the “Pink Nightmare” costume every Christmas morning… complete with those blue button eyes!) go head to head in a “Christmas Story” trivia battle. I’ve never met anyone who knows more about the movie than him, so I’m really looking forward to following these blogs for the next few weeks! 🙂

    Rachel,
I’m so glad you are excited for them! I have been having so much fun planning them out. There were some quotes I wanted to use that I thought might be too obscure… but now I may just use them!

Tell your boyfriend, anyone that wears the bunny suit is full on “Coolest person ever” in my book!
